Vilas County is home to many great small town festivals throughout the year, but the upcoming Klondike Days is one-of-a-kind! The 24th annual Klondike Days will take place March 1st and 2nd on the grounds of the Northland Pines High School, Rocking W Stables, and Kartway in Eagle River. The weekend will feature a variety of activities,contests and great educational programs that the whole family will love. This great local event has up to 12,000 attendees, and is even being called the #1 Winter Family Fun Festival!
Living History in Eagle River
Turn-of-the-century activities are the focus of the popular winter festival, with River Country Reds Rendezvous and Living History Encampment as a major attraction. Any individual or club can participate in the camp from February 26th through March 2nd. On Friday, February 28th, the encampment is expecting about 400 students to visit, where they will have the opportunity to learn about the blacksmiths, trading, clothing and more of the 1700’s. The camp will be open to the public on Saturday and Sunday.
Eagle River’s Klondike Days Has Something For Everyone!
An assortment of competitions draws participants from across the country to Klondike Days. The Great Northern Lumberjack Competition is the only competition of its kind in the winter and the third largest in the Midwest. The snowshoe challenge will be fun for any snow enthusiasts and the Dog Sled Weight Pull will see many returning favorites. Performances by Waswagoning Dance Theatre and Blue Winds Dancers will take place on Saturday and Sunday. When you aren’t watching one of these entertaining events, you can browse through a variety of arts and crafts. The children events will include hay rides, pony rides, and a Scavenger Hunt put on by the Northwoods Childrens Museum. Educational Programs will be presented by Northwoods Wildlife Center and Raptor Education Group, among others.
