Resources are strictly managed due to more than 80% of the land area around Arbor Vitae being state owned, although there is still some controlled logging occurring there. Due to 150 years of logging, the logging roads and abandoned railroads in the area make for many unique hiking, biking and snowmobiling trails that allow you to explore the beautiful area surrounding Big Arbor Vitae Lake, as well as Little Arbor Vitae Lake, in every season. You can literally step off of the porch of your newly remodeled home and enjoy all that nature has to offer, right in your own backyard!
Tourism Plays a Role
As with many northern Wisconsin towns, the population of Arbor Vitae increases in the summer months as vacationers and seasonal residents come up for a much needed break from the bigger cities. With several interesting towns nearby, Arbor Vitae is a hub with it’s own restaurants, shopping, and lodging.

Arbor Vitae is a town of many beautiful lakes and is the location of several activities throughout the year. Located in Vilas County, in an area known as the Lakeland area for its large abundance of sparkling clean freshwater lakes – one of the largest concentrations of freshwater bodies in the world!
